This writer is a skeptic when it comes to all fortune telling, because of my belief that we are the masters of our destiny and that only God can be our source of supernatural help or succor. However, I believe 1,000 percent in any predictions on my fate or fortune when they are positive, seriously!
I wish to add that in my research on entrepreneurs, those who are the most hardworking and most filial towards their parents as well as their forebears are the luckiest. Most ethnic Chinese worldwide believe that the more hardworking a person is, the luckier he or she is.
Since today is the first day of the Chinese Lunar New Year 4710, last week I researched and sought out two feng shui masters in downtown Manila to ask what they foretell for this new year.
The first is 75-year-old Huang Ta Chuan, whose main business is the Quan Yin Chay vegetarian restaurant at 821 Masangkay St. corner Salazar St., Binondo, Manila, plus two branches on the third and fifth floors of 168 Mall in Divisoria. He has never agreed to any media interviews, but was introduced to me by Manuel O. Chua of the Tulay Foundation based at Roxas Boulevard, Malate, Manila. Huang said he had once been invited by a Chinese tycoon to Malacañang Palace to offer his feng shui ideas to then First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos.
The second feng shui guy is 40-year-old Willy Go Ang, who lives in Quezon City but has an office in the BPI Building in Plaza Cervantes, Binondo, Manila. He has often been interviewed on GMA 7 and TV5. Feng shui is his trade, but he said he doesn’t charge fees for consultations; he only sells good luck charms to people interested.
THE PHILIPPINE STAR: What are the prospects for the Philippine economy in this New Year?
HUANG TA CHUAN: Not bad for the Philippine economy, but the country will experience many problems.
What kinds of problems?
There will be natural calamities, even an earthquake, because this year is a Water Dragon year, lots of tumult. I advise all people to do more good works to offset this turbulence.
How do you foresee the world economy?
Not good, especially Europe and the USA because they can’t stabilize their economies. The weather and climate patterns of the earth will also be ominous.
President Noynoy Aquino was born in the year of the Metal Rat. His fortune?
I need the complete details of his date and exact time of birth.
What about P-Noy’s adversary, Chief Justice Renato Corona, born in the year of the Earth Rat?
I don’t know him personally and need more details to gauge his fortune.
What about US President Barack Obama, his fortune this new year?
It’s going to be a dangerous year for Obama!
How will businesses generally be in the New Year?
Frankly, I foresee difficulties for businesses, so I advise entrepreneurs to be more cautious and not be too aggressive. This year of the Water Dragon has lots of bad news, so I urge business people to do more charity and do more good for others if they want to do well.

PHILIPPINE STAR: How do you foresee the world economy?
WILLY GO ANG: It will be good for the world economy.
How will the Philippine economy fare this New Year?
The Philippine economy will be okay, businesses will be okay, but Philippine politics will not be okay. The rich will fare better, but the poor in Philippine society will complain: they will feel slow progress and they will think that P-Noy is not working.
So Philippine businesses will be better this New Year?
Businesses will be better, because it’s the year of the Dragon. But a businessman’s fate will also depend on one’s good karma. Avoid gambling, focus on business.
Philippine politics this New Year?
Philippine politics will be chaotic this year, sobrang gulo! President Aquino will encounter embarrassments because of his Cabinet and some kin.
How will P-Noy be in this Dragon year? He was born in the year of the Metal Rat.
P-Noy will be all right, he will be lucky, but I advise him to focus on his health because once he’s not careful, he might suffer ailments. It’s possible he’ll get sick.
What is the fortune of embattled Chief Justice Corona, born in the year of the Earth Rat?
It will be a difficult year for him. P-Noy and Corona were both born in the Rat year, but a Metal Rat is stronger than an Earth Rat. A metal rat is a fighter and what he really wants is to be followed. Corona will have a difficult struggle this year.
Ex-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s fortune? She was born in the year of the Fire Pig.
GMA will suffer bad karma this year. What she did before will go back to her. Her health and fortune will suffer this year.
The fortune of Vice President Binay, born in the year of the Water Horse?
Binay this year will be okay, this will be a lucky and good year for him. However, he needs to be careful, because many rivals have the intention of demolishing him, because a Horse like him is lucky this year. The more fortunate you are, the more others will hit you.
Ex-President Joseph Estrada, year of the Fire Ox?
A little not good this year, because the Ox is not compatible with the Dragon. Erap should be careful with his health and possibly some accidents, but he need not worry about his success.
Department of Transportation and Communications’ Mar Roxas, a Fire Rooster?
Rooster is compatible with the dragon, so it’s okay, a lucky year. There will be some embarrassments, but he will overcome. There will be intrigues, but that is natural in politics.
The fortune of US President Obama, a Metal Ox?
A bad year for Obama; his popularity will be weaker now than before. The American people will not be satisfied with his performance as a leader.
So will possible Republican presidential bet Mitt Romney, a Fire Pig, win over Obama?
Pig is another bad year for this Dragon year. The US presidential election in November will be a fight between two candidates with bad fortune, if indeed Romney is the opposition bet.
What are the birth signs that are incompatible with the Dragon year?
The Rabbit, the Ox and the Dog, but the worst is the Dog because it’s the mortal enemy of the Dragon. Unlike the Rabbit and Ox, a Dog is a fighter and will clash directly with the Dragon, but it will lose, so all those born under these years should be extra-careful this Dragon year.
So those born in the years incompatible with the Dragon will have bad luck?
In general, but there are still 20 percent of the people whose fortunes will not be the same as predicted, and they have possibilities of overcoming.
How do people with bad luck overcome?
Good karma or doing good things for others can offset any bad luck. Not doing bad things will also usher in good fortune to those whose birth year is incompatible with the Dragon.
So it’s a good year for the Horse?
Yes, a lucky year for the Horse.
For people born in year of the Tiger?
Half the year will be okay, the other half year will be not okay, but depends on what type of Tiger to determine whether first or second half will be good.
What about a Wood Goat like Microsoft founder Bill Gates?
Quite okay for him this year.
Warren Buffett, a Metal Horse?
Okay. This Dragon year is generally good for the Horse.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, a Wood Rat?
Not so good this year for him; many want to destroy him due to envy.
What about the fortune of self-made billionaire Manny Pacquiao, a Metal Pig?
He will be okay; he will enjoy success despite his birth year. The Pig is not favorable, and Pacquiao will be prone to sickness. He should be careful in accepting projects or fights. He will be lucky this year, unlike most Pigs in this year of the Dragon.
Sharon Cuneta Pangilinan, a Wood Snake?
The Snake is the luckiest this year. Sharon Cuneta in particular will enjoy a great year.
Kris Aquino, a Metal Pig?
Okay in terms of success even if the Pig year is incompatible with the Dragon, but Kris might be prone to sickness so she should be careful about her health. She is lucky, unlike other Pigs.
Piolo Pascual, a Fire Dragon?
Not a good year. Some people wrongly believe if they were born in a Dragon year this is their lucky year; not true. Eighty percent of those born in a Dragon year will suffer bad luck this year, 20 percent will enjoy good luck.
Anne Curtis, a Wood Ox?
Okay for her this year, but be careful about accidents.
Sarah Geronimo, an Earth Dragon?
A little bit not so good, but it can be a good year if she’s part of the 20 percent of Dragons who are lucky.
Marian Rivera, a Wood Rat?
A little bit okay this year.
Dingdong Dantes, a Metal Monkey?
This year will be okay, but some rivals will try to destroy him due to envy.
