GE to showcase advanced technology and energy solutions in the Philippines

-

MANILA, Philippines - Energy efficiency and sustainability, along with the need to diversify its energy supply, are among the key issues facing the Philippines. Finding solutions to these challenges will be a key theme at the 2011 Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines (IIEE) 36th Annual Convention. It will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) from Nov. 23 to 26. Admission to the event is free and open to industry professionals and the public on Nov. 23 to 25 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Nov. 26 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

One of the most anticipated engineering and technology events in the country, the annual IIEE convention is a platform for governmental officials, industry leaders and researchers to discuss new technologies and policy developments. Several leaders from GE will participate in the conference program on smart grid and electric vehicle technologies, and the company will showcase its diverse product portfolio that can help the Philippines achieve its energy development goals.

The Philippines has a rising energy demand, with almost two thirds of the nation’s current energy supplied by natural gas and fossil fuels such as oil and coal. To increase energy efficiency in the country, new Smart Grid technologies need to be deployed and the reduction of carbon emissions through the use of electric vehicles would have to be accelerated as well.

John Alcordo, country executive for GE Energy Philippines, believes that GE’s participation in the IIEE will help maximize opportunities both for the company and energy players in the country in areas such as knowledge sharing, collaboration and assistance in meeting the present challenges in the industry.

GE (Booth # 49-54 /15-20) will showcase innovations and solutions that can be applied across four major industries, including:

• Renewable industry: GE’s WattStation is an easy-to-use electric vehicle (EV) charger. Designed to help accelerate the adoption of plug-in electric vehicles, it significantly decreases the time needed for vehicle charging and, using smart grid technology, allows utility companies to manage the impact of electric vehicles on local and regional grids.

• Utility industry: GE’s gas turbines offer cost-effective features such as high efficiency, fuel and operational flexibility, high reliability and availability. Aeroderivatives gas turbines provide flexible power-generation solutions that range from 18 to 100 MW for utility, petroleum, marine and industrial applications. GE’s steam turbines (with over 530 GW of steam turbine capacity) can be found in fossil-fired, combined cycle, renewable, industrial and petrochemical plants around the globe.

• Data center industry: GE’s LP120-33 series Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) provides power protection for a wide range of mission-critical applications. It is a transformer-less design reducing installed footprint and installation time. LP33 series UPS’s are suitable for use in large data networks and telecom equipment.

Oil and gas industry: GE’s Bently Nevada – System 1 software and 3500 monitoring system provides continuous, online monitoring for machinery protection applications and GE’s USM Vision is a total weld inspection solution for new process pipe-work fabrication.
