Shell honored at Quill Awards

-

MANILA, Philippines - Shell companies in the Philippines (SciP) bagged two Awards of Excellence and two Awards of Merit from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines at the recent 2010 Philippine Quill Awards. The Philippine Quill, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, is the industry standard for the most outstanding public relations and business communication programs, skills, and creative tools.

IABC Philippines gave recognition to exceptional work done by business communicators in the past 12 months in the Quill’s 3 Divisions and 27 categories. Over 331 entries submitted by the best companies from various industries vied for the 2010 Philippine Quill Awards but only 103 made it.

Out of 19 Excellence awardees, Pilipinas Shell bagged two trophies for the Shell Eco-marathon Asia (Communication Management-Special Events-Internal/External Category) and eShell World Philippines Online Newsletter (Communication Skills-Electronic and Digital Communication Category). The Shell Eco-marathon (SEM) Asia is Shell’s landmark campaign on fuel efficiency, which debuted in Asia this July 2010.

A unique car marathon that measures distance rather than speed, the SEM presents an opportunity for Filipino engineering students to engage in friendly competition with their Asian counterparts while utilizing their capabilities, talents, and resources to create an innovative, fuel-efficient car prototype and promote the message of fuel-efficiency and sustainable mobility solutions. Meanwhile, eShell World Philippines Online Newsletter is the standardized, reader-friendly and visually appealing official online newsletter of SciP, which continuously provides Shell staff nationwide and Filipino staff posted in Shell offices worldwide with relevant information about SciP, its programs, and activities towards employees, stakeholders, and external publics.

Bagging Quill Awards of Merit, on the other hand, were Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc.’s Movement Against Malaria Program for the Communication Management-Economic, Social and Environmental Development Category, and Gas Mo, Bukas Ko II Program for the Communication Management-Multi-Audience Communication Category.

The Gas Mo, Bukas Ko (GMBK) II is a scholarship program aimed at the dependents of public transport workers. The program was launched in July 2009 as a form of financial assistance for the public transport sector not only to help them cope with the volatility of crude oil prices but also to help improve the lives of their families by providing long-term educational opportunities.

As one of SciP’s flagship sustainable development healthcare programs, the Movement Against Malaria (MAM) contributes to nation-building through the provision of access to healthcare for one of the world’s most deadly diseases.

All of Shell’s entries won prestigious Quill Awards for its quality of communications strategy and effectiveness of implementation. The entries were chosen by a board of judges, who are respected authorities in business and in communication. The awarding ceremony was held recently at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila.
