Franchising opportunities beyond donuts
MANILA, Philippines - Famous management consultant Peter Drucker once said, “Quality in a service or product is not what you put into it. It is what the client or customer gets out of it.” Such has been the mantra of popular donut and coffee brand Dunkin’ Donuts since its official start in 1950.
It all started in 1948 when founder Bill Rosenberg opened a donut outlet called “Open Kettle” in Quincy, Massachusetts. However, it was two years later when it was renamed “Dunkin’ Donuts,” setting the groundwork for the small business that would eventually be known as the world’s biggest donut, coffee and baked goods chain.
By 1963, Dunkin’ Donuts had 100 outlets in the United States, with Rosenberg’s son Robert Rosenberg becoming the company’s president and CEO at the young age of 25. The continued success and rising popularity of the brand led to the opening of the first international outlet in Japan in 1970.
Dunkin’ Donuts made its way to the Philippines (under Golden Donuts, Inc.) in 1981, opening its first outlet in Makati Commercial Center. Its delicious donuts quickly won over the hearts of many Filipinos, and soon, it started expanding to other areas nationwide.
Today, there are approximately 800 outlets — and counting — all over the country serving donuts, brewed coffee, baked goods and other savory treats to millions of Filipinos.
Just like its other international branches, Dunkin’ Donuts Philippines offers more than just great donuts. Over the years, it has provided Filipinos plenty of delicious food offerings that are well remembered by customers young and old, setting the benchmark for other similar products.
Some classic Dunkin’ Donuts products offered over the years include the signature donuts and munchkins (popular flavors include Boston Kreme, Choco Honey Dipped, Choco Butternut, Bavarian, Strawberry-Filled, Honey Dip, Sugar Raised and Nutty Choco), original brewed coffee, iced coffee and other flavored beverages, savory items such as the bunwiches and croissants, and bakery products including muffins and brownies.
Thanks to Dunkin’ Donuts, Filipinos now have a deeper appreciation of the much-loved comfort food. “The best thing about donuts is that they can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere, in whatever way. You can eat it on its own or, as our name suggests, dunk it in your coffee. It’s comfort food on the go. Most importantly, they can be shared with the most important people in your life — you can take them home to family and friends as an everyday pasalubong treat,” says Rosanna Ledesma, business development director of Golden Donuts, Inc.
Just what is the secret to this donut company’s immense success? Ledesma simply answers: “Passion. Love for our customers. We are committed to making our customers happy at all times. We want every person who walks into a Dunkin’ Donuts outlet to walk out with a smile on his or her face, having experienced the best in terms of quality, service and cleanliness. This is the Dunkin’ Donuts experience, something that we want to incorporate in the Pinoy’s everyday life.”
Ledesma stresses that the company’s commitment to superior customer service goes beyond providing quality products. “We strive to constantly maintain the high quality of our donuts and other food offerings, we also want to establish friendships with our customers so that they will deem the experience worth coming back for.”
