Do not be too choosy in looking for a job
Dear Nanay,
It has always been my dream to take a trip to Korea. Can you tell me how to make money because I lack a budget? — LMD
Dear LMD,
I have always said that if you want something, you have to be willing to work for it. If you want something very badly, then you have to be willing to work very hard for it. Mahirap talagang kumita ng pera, pero kung masipag ka, makakahanap ka ng paraan (It’s hard to make money but if you work hard you will find a way).
If you have the capital then you can start a business. Maybe a sari-sari store or door-to-door selling. It may be hard work but it can earn you good income. If you do not think you are a good businessman then you can find a job. Do not be too choosy. Many people who complain they cannot find a job are actually guilty of just being too picky.
After you have established your monthly income, you have to start saving. Kailangan magtipid (You need to save)! For some people, saving money is even more difficult than finding a job or starting a business. But if you are disciplined and determined, you might be surprised that in a relatively short time you will have enough to take your dream vacation.
Sincerely,
Nanay

Is There A Minimum Water Charge?
Dear Nanay,
I live in a condotel in the Greenhills area and do not know where to ask for an informed opinion regarding the minimum water bill of P100 being charged monthly to my account. I live alone and my water consumption has always been low — no more than 0.5 cubic meters per month. I always felt it unfair. If my concern is valid, does the condotel management potentially violate any law or regulation? — Brian Del Rosario
Dear Brian,
I am not sure what policies your condotel or the water company has with regard to a minimum monthly charge. But I think the best thing that you can do is to talk to whoever is sending you the bill, whether it’s the condotel or the water company. You have to ask them why they are charging you and if they have a minimum monthly charge as a policy. Talk to them in a very nice way, at pagkatapos, sa kanila ka na makipag-negotiate (after which you negotiate with them).
If they do not have a minimum monthly charge as a policy and you still cannot explain your high water bill, you might want to check all your pipes, faucets and water closets. You might be surprised how much a small drip somewhere can add to your water bill.
Sincerely,
Nanay
