English skills needed here!
Dear Nanay,
I want to improve my English skills. What should I do?
Maggie
Dear Maggie,
Perhaps your first option should be to look at some English language courses. You can inquire in local schools or universities to see if they offer such a class. There are also a number of language schools that may offer courses that will teach you to speak better English.
Other alternatives include getting a private tutor or maybe enrolling in something like a call center training school, which will certainly help improve your oral skills.
There are also some online learning and tutoring services. I don’t know if any of them are any good but you can do some research on the Internet.
Just remember that anything you do to practice your English skills — written or oral — will help. You can read books or even watch television. Find someone to chat with on the Internet or write a diary. Any practice is good practice. And if you keep at it, for sure your skills will keep improving all the time.
Sincerely,
NanaY

You’ve Been Served
Dear Nanay,
This is not a question nor a story that needs to be printed in your enviable column, but rather a simple message for the silent workers in National Book Store who give credence to “customer service.” The subject is an employee in your Shangri-La Mall branch who went out of her way to acquire a human resources management book from another NBS branch just to please a customer. This gesture is worth emulating. I will always give this example of service in my teachings in San Beda College.
Will you please give her a simple “pat on the back” for me?
Thank you very much and God bless.
Prof. Red Espiritu
Dear Prof. Espiritu,
Thank you for your kind e-mail expressing satisfaction with the customer service rendered by our customer service assistant, Alice Pacia.
Your encouraging commendation is what keeps us going to further improve our service to valued customers like you.
Again, thank you very much and may God bless you always with good health, happiness and more success.
Sincerely,
Nanay
