Gruppo Biswal presents ‘Ani’ at the GSIS Museo ng Sining

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - “Ani,” the theme of Gruppo Biswal’s 13th show is a celebration of nature’s gifts to the Filipino as well as recognition of the hardworking people who ensure that others may share in the harvests of the produce. “Ani” also hopes to be a subtle reminder that Filipinos, as a people, should take care of these blessings of natural resources.

Gruppo Biswal was started in late 2012 by a group of friends and their friends, all artists. One of the memorable exhibits conducted by the group was “Benedizione del Papa” at the Manila Cathedral, from December 2014 to January 2015, just in time for Pope Francis’ papal visit. The exhibition featured the unveiling of the Gruppo Biswal Mural of “Five Popes Blessing the Manila Cathedral” which now adorns the sacristy at the Cathedral.

Gruppo Biswal’s “Ani” is made possible by the invitation of Prof. Consolacion “Ching” Estarija of Miriam College who is currently treasurer of the Philippine Art Educators Association (PAEA) and with the GSIS Museum’s support. The exhibit is part of PAEA’s celebration of National Teachers’ Month and World Teachers Day.

Some of the exhibiting artists for “Ani” are Eric Cachero, Jun Montifar, Rex Avila, Ace Dimanlig, Alfred Morales, Gelo Domingo, Nestie Enriquez, Joseph Renta, and Ben Cruz with guest artist, Prof. Ching Estarija.

“Ani” is on view at the GSIS Museum from Oct. 20 to Nov. 12. Exhibit opening is on Oct. 20, 5 p. m., with special guests such as former Ambassador to the UNESCO, Preciosa Soliven; Parañaque City Representative, Gus Tambunting; and representatives from the Department of Education. Part of the proceeds will support various projects.
