MANILA, Philippines - Rodel Tapaya’s solo exhibition, “Diamond in the Distance” opened at the ARNDT Fine Art at Gillman Barracks, Singapore on September 12. The exhibition is the third to be launched under the Philippine Art Trek 2015.

Rodel Tapaya, born in 1980 in Montalban, Rizal is considered to be one of the most active artists in Southeast Asia today. In the exhibition, Tapaya attempts to mediate between the interstices of what is valued and what is coveted through series of acrylic works on canvas and paper.

His breakthrough came when he was awarded the coveted Top Prize in the Nokia Art Awards, which allowed him to pursue intensive drawing and painting courses at Parsons School of Design in New York and the University of Helsinki in Finland. He completed his studies at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts.

The 9th edition of the Philippine Art Trek in Singapore was officially launched last September 7, with the symbolic opening of the group exhibition, “Filipiniana/Pinoy Collective,” in Singapore.“Filipiniana/Pinoy Collective” is the first of five solo and group exhibitions that comprise this year’s Art Trek.

Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales and representatives of the Philippine Embassy were on hand to witness the occasion. Diamond in the Distance is open to the public until October 25.
