48th Shell art tilt puts the spotlight on digital filmmaking
MANILA, Philippines - The Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC), Shell’s enduring program that supports budding Filipino artists, opened the Digital Short Film under the Multimedia category in 2014. This year, more and more students of digital arts are expected to participate in the said category and showcase their talents in filmmaking.
Digital Short Film joins the traditional Shell NSAC categories such as Oil/Acrylic, Watercolor, Sculpture, and the Digital Fine Arts that is also under the Multimedia Arts category.
The inclusion of Digital Short Film in NSAC is in recognition of an emerging art trend that goes hand-in-hand with innovative digital technology, which has since allowed people to create their own film using mobile devices like cell phones, tablets and DLSR cameras, then, publish their work on the worldwide web.
With the theme “Highlights,” the 48th Shell NSAC allows student-artist participants this year to tell the story of their life’s brightest moment. NSAC judgest for the Digital Short Film category are independent filmmaker Raymond Red, Pablo Biglang-Awa, and Avid Liongoren.
The Shell NSAC is open to all Filipino college students who are currently enrolled this year for at least 12 units. Grand prize winners will each be awarded a cash prize amounting to P60,000. The second and third place winners will receive P40,000 and P30,000, respectively.
Past winners of the Shell NSAC include a number of contemporary Filipino art masters such as National Artists Benedicto “Bencab” Cabrera, Jose Joya, Ang Kiukok, and Federico Aguilar Alcuaz.
Submission and acceptance of provincial entries will be from August 12, 13 and 14, 2015 at any Shell provincial depot and installations, or in any of the following receiving centers: Anthill Fabric Gallery, Gallery Orange and Museo Iloilo. Metro Manila-based contestants must bring their entries on September 3, 4 and 5, 2015 to Shell House, 156 Valero Street, Salcedo Village, Makati City.
