CCP names ballet competition winners
MANILA, Philippines - The Cultural Center of the Philippines announces the winners of the ?1st CCP Ballet Competition 2014 held at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater):
The Junior category winners are Klievert Jon Mendoza, first prize; Mikaela Lauryn Santos, second prize; and Rissa May Camaclang, third prize.
The special awardees are Veronica Atienza (Luva Adameit Award — Special Award for a female dancer); Clark David Ortega (Manolo Rosado Award — Special Award for a male dancer); and Stephen Biadoma for Tiktik, interpreted by Klievert Jon Mendoza, (Trudl Dubsky Zipper Award — Outstanding Contemporary Choreography Award).
For the Senior category, separate awards were given to the male and female participants.
The female participants are Denise Parungao, first prize; Ma. Regina Magbitang, second prize; and Jemima Sanielle Reyes, third prize.
The male participats are Garry Corpuz, first prize; Victor Maguad, second prize; and Aldrian Reifaus Ocampo, third prize.
The special awardees are Angella Betina Carlos (Luva Adameit Award — Special Award for a Female Dancer); A.L. Frederick Abraham (Manolo Rosado Award — Special Award for a Male Dancer); Erl Sorilla for Dolores, Agonies of Cancer, interpreted by Aldrian Reifaus Ocampo (Trudl Dubsky Zipper Award — Outstanding Contemporary Choreography Award).
The competition consisted of two parts: the first part was the rendition of the classical variations, and the second part was the performance of a contemporary piece.
The jury, composed of four Filipinos and one from the Asian region, were as follows: Eddie Elejar, Carlos “Caloy” Garcia, Jeng Halili, Sonia Domingo Orevillo, and Pham Anh Phuong.
Prizes are the following: P35,000 (first prize), P25,000 (second prize), P15,000 (third prize), and P10,000 (Trudl Dubsky Zipper Award for Outstanding Contemporary Choreography).
