Appreciating nature thru work of art
MANILA, Philippines - Inside the upscale Globe building in Bonifacio Global City, one may find himself appreciating its architectural beauty—shiny ceramic walkways, spotless white walls and comfortable looking lounges. Attention last night was centered, however, to the building’s art gallery which featured works from 27 artists including father and daughter Emmanuel and Alee Garibay, Wire Tuason, Demetrio dela Cruz and Anton del Castillo.
Aptly called “If Trees Could Talk,” the environment-themed exhibition not only showcases works of art but also raises awareness on the current and strained relationship between humankind and nature.
Opening remarks were made by Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development (CANVAS) member Gigo Alampay. Manny Blas, the man behind the Mind Museum and current managing director of the Bonifacio Foundation joined up with Gigo and artist Emmanuel Garibay for the formal ribbon cutting at the gallery’s entrance.
Poems, essay, and short stories make up of a series of books to be published by CANVAS this November and these were also found at the gallery. Philstar.com later learned that a million of these books will donated to children in public schools and disadvantaged communities via CANVAS’ One Million Books for One Million Children campaign.
