Multimedia art debuts in 47th Shell art tilt

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC), one of the most enduring and highly anticipated contests supporting young Filipino talents in the arts, announces a new category for its 47th edition this year.

Digital short film entries as well as digital print art are now part of the Multimedia Arts category, signifying the competition’s continued relevance in today’s art scene.

The wider scope of the Shell NSAC in recognizing newer art forms gains further significance with the centennial celebration of Shell companies in the Philippines this year. “Just as Shell has been a pioneer in energy and gas technology through the decades, we continue to apply the same spirit of innovation in our projects such as NSAC in the arena of arts and design, and in other youth development programs as well,” says Jackie Ampil, Pilipinas Shell social investment manager.

Past winners of the Shell NSAC include numerous contemporary Filipino art masters, including four National Artists — Benedicto “BenCab” Cabrera, Jose Joya, Ang Kiukok, and Federico Aguilar Alcuaz.

The Shell NSAC is open to all Filipino college students who are currently enrolled with at least 12 units. Participants can submit works in oil/acrylic, watercolor, sculpture, and multimedia arts. The theme this year is “Spark for the Future.” Grand prize winners will each be awarded a cash prize amounting to P60,000. The second and third place winners will receive P40,000 and P30,000, respectively.

Submission of provincial entries will be on July 9, 10 and 11, 2014 at any Shell provincial depot and installation or in any of the following receiving centers: Anthill Fabric Gallery, Gallery Orange and Museo Iloilo. Metro Manila-based contestants must bring their entries on July 31, Aug. 1 and 2 to Shell House, 156 Valero Street, Salcedo Village, Makati City.

Other partners and sponsors of the Shell National Students Art Competition include Shell V-Power Nitro +, Shell Helix Motor Oils, Shell FuelOil Plus, Air21, Canson Artist Papers, Winsor & Newton, Liquitex, National Book Store and Ayala Museum.
