‘Art from the Heart’ for Yolanda victims

MANILA, Philippines -  Several artists and art galleries have gotten together to do their share to help Filipinos who have been become victims of the devastation brought about by typhoon Yolanda. The artists participating in this project did not hesitate when asked to donate artworks for this noteworthy cause.

“It is our chance to help out and give back,” says modernist master Angelito Antonio who donated four artworks done in oil on paper. Titled “Art from the Heart (for the Benefit of the Victims of Typhoon Yolanda),” the project has as donors outstanding and renowned artists such as National Artist Abdulmari Imao, Presidential Medal of Merit awardee Juvenal Sanso, the estate of National Artist Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, renowned sculptors Ed Castrillo, Ramon Orlina and Michael Cacnio, Justin Nuyda, Dominic Rubio, Carlo Magno, Carlo Ongchangco, Glenn Cagandahan, Jomar Delluba, Richard Arimado, Aileen Lanuza, Vincent de Pio, Dominador Laroza, Karina Baluyut, Migs Villanueva, Anna de Leon, Roel Obemio, Camille Ver, Francis Nacion, Bel Campa, Rob Lucas and many more.  “The list of donating artists is actually growing daily,” says Camille Abello-Calimon who is coordinating the project.

The main beneficiary for “Art from the Heart” will be the Philippine National Red Cross. One hundred percent of proceeds from the artists and the participating galleries will be donated.

The exhibit, which opens on Dec. 11, Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. and runs until Dec. 15 at Galerie Joaquin Main in San Juan, is supported by the UP School of Economics Alumni Association (UPSEAA), the Rotary Club of Makati Bel Air, Frederick Peralta Atelier, Galerie Joaquin, Galerie Stephanie, Galerie Francesca, Galerie Raphael, Galleria Nicolas. The artists and organizers hope that this will just be the first of a series of “Art from the Heart” projects which will be held in different venues and locations all over the country. Parties interested in helping typhoon Yolanda victims are welcome to the exhibition.
