The Vinluans at Pinto Art Gallery
MANILA, Philippines - Nestor Vinluan, son Paulo and daughter Liv present their latest works in a show, which opens on Nov. 17 at Pinto Gallery. Also on view are the works of Lyn Romualdez Vinluan.
As an artist possessing a never-ending childlike fascination with the natural world — the texture of a stone, the veins of a leaf, the thousands of blue washes in the sky — Nestor Olarte Vinluan continues to distill these observations in nature and translate them on canvas as sublime pieces of art, quietly powerful and containing a subtle spirituality. He works upon a multitude of precisely even layers that creates a universe on a two-dimensional surface conveying unparalleled depth — a craft that he has painstakingly mastered in the lengthy span of his almost 40-year career.
San Juan Industria is comprised of siblings Paulo and Liv.
Paulo was born in Brooklyn in the early ‘80s, and was a former Play-Doh champion in the now defunct ‘90s television show Uncle Bob’s Lucky 7 Club. Liv was born in the city of Manila in the late ‘80s, and has a penchant for plastic animals and great stories. Together they make animated shorts that examine death, using animals and fruits as metaphors.
The animated short Ambrosia Temporale by San Juan Industria was first exhibited in 2012, a film “analyzing the cohabitation of absolute failure with the supreme animal will and instinct for survival.†Their other film, Fruit of the Doom, a claymation short released in 2013, followed the short life, decay and rebirth of a fruit. They are currently working on their next film involving skeletons and hybrid animals. The show is until Dec. 3.
