Instituto Cervantes’ Pelicula 2013 opens with ‘Blancanieves’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Instituto Cervantes, the Spanish Agency for International Development and Cooperation, Film Development Council of the Philippines and Manila Contemporary present Pelicula 2013, which opens on Oct. 2 with inaugural film Blancanieves by Spanish director Pablo Berger.

Blancanieves is a gothic melodrama inspired by the Brothers’ Grimm tale on Snow White, about a little girl who has never met her mother and grew up being hated by her evil stepmother. She learned the art of her father, a famous bullfighter, and one day ran away to become a legend. Set in the ’20s in the south of Spain, Blancanieves is a tribute to silent films. It received 10 Goya Awards including Best Film, Best Script and Best Actress.

The Pelicula 2013 opening night will be held at the Ayala Museum, 6 p.m., and the screening of Blancanieves will be at Greenbelt 3, Cinema 2, 8 p.m., both on Oct. 2.
