Philippine Art Awards now open for submissions

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Art Awards (PAA) has finalized its schedule of submission of entries. After its successful run in 2012, wherein Cagayan De Oro artist Jericho Valjusto Vamenta bagged the grand prize, the PAA 2013 competition promises to be even more challenging for visual artists nationwide.

The PAA 2013-2014 supports the development of Philippine contemporary art and aims to increase the national and regional exposure for Philippine art and artists by providing a platform for up-and-coming Philippine artists, at the same time nurturing their talents through regional and national exhibitions that allow ample cross-cultural exposure.

“We are very pleased to acknowledge the ever growing popularity of the competition through the years as indicated by the steady stream of inquiries even before its official launch announcement.  It validates our efforts to continually support and participate in the development of Philippine artists and Philippine art in general,” says Bayen Elero, corporate affairs director of PMFTC Inc., organizer of PAA.

For this year’s regional competition, a total of 40 winners will be selected to represent PAA’s four regional competition areas: Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, as well as compete during the 2014 National Finals where the grand prize winner and Juror’s Choice awardees will be selected.

Regional collection centers assisting PAA in the systematic acceptance of entries are ready to receive entries on the following dates: Cebu at Asian Tigers Lane Moving- Mandaue (Aug. 21); Davao at Asian Tigers Lane Moving-Ma-a (Aug. 27); Angono at Blanco Museum (Sept. 2); Bulacan at Hiyas ng Bulakan (Sept. 3); Pampanga at Holy Angel University (Sept. 4); Baguio at Baguio Museum (Sept. 5); Calabarzon at Asian Tigers Lane Moving-Taguig (Sept. 14) and Metro Manila at Asian Tigers Lane Moving-Taguig (Sept. 21).
