Christina Poblador wins AFM-PARP 3rd edition grant

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Alliance Française de Manille (AFM) awards the 2013 grant of its Philippine Artist Residency Program (AFM-PARP) to sculptor/visual artist Christina “Goldie” Poblador.

Poblador learned the art of glass sculpting in New York and Seattle, USA, and had immersions in the practices of glassblowing, flameworking and bead making in Murano, Italy.

Poblador initially majored in painting at the College of Fine Arts, University of the Philippines in Diliman in Quezon City. She had numerous solo exhibitions in the Philippines and in Asia.  She was shortlisted at the Ateneo Art Awards both in 2009 and 2012, and she is currently invited to the Artist in Residence Program in Vallauris, France.

Poblador bested five other outstanding young artists, and was selected winner by a distinguished panel of judges composed of Florentina Colayco, president of the Metropolitan Museum of the Philippines and former dean of the College of Fine Arts in the University of the Philppines in Diliman; proprietor of Gallery Astra Eduardo Soler, cultural counselor of the French Embassy in the Philippines Christian Mérer, AFM-PARP 2011 grantee Ronald “Riel” Hilario, and AFM Board of Directors president Bernardo Sim.  Poblador will take up her residency grant in Paris from September to December 2013.

The AFM-PARP program was launched in July 2010 to mark AFM’s 90th anniversary. It was conceived as a means to broaden professional networks between contemporary art communities in the Philippines and France.  The three-month residency, to be hosted by an artists’ residence in France, aims to enrich the experience of local artists within the contemporary art scene, by providing them opportunities for stimulating cultural exchanges and collaboration with other artists.  One residency is offered annually to Filipino visual artists.
