Instituto Cervantes and FDCP launch film cycle on immigration
MANILA, Philippines - Instituto Cervantes and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), in cooperation with the Film Archives of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), present Inmigrantes, a four-part series of Spanish and Filipino films to be shown every Saturday of the month of February at the Salón de Actos of Instituto Cervantes.
This will be the first time that two institutions have teamed up to tackle a common theme — that of immigration — which tell the unsung stories of individuals who risk gambling their lives in a foreign country to support their loved ones at home. This will also be first time that Filipino movies will be shown in the Salón de Actos of Instituto Cervantes, the cultural arm of the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines. Included in the line-up of Inmigrantes are award-winning Spanish films such as Un franco, 14 pesetas (Carlos Iglesias, 2006) and Retorno a Hansala (Chus Gutiérrez, 2008) as well as Filipino box-office hits such as Rory Quintos’ Anak (2000) and Milan (Olivia Lamasan, 2004).
The film cycle will screen starting tomorrow with Un franco, 14 pesetas (2 p.m.) and Emir (4 p.m.), Feb. 9 with El tren de la memoria (2 p.m.) and Anak (4 p.m.), Feb. 16 with 14 kilométros (2 p.m.) and La Visa Loca (4 p.m.), and Feb. 23 with Retorno a Hansala (2 p.m.) and Milan (4 p.m.).
