Met Museum’s yearend exhibits

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Museum of Manila presents its last quarter exhibits for 2012.

“Contemporary Lithography from Finland” is a visit-worthy international art show ongoing at the Met Museum’s Tall Galleries. The touring exhibit showcases the enduring art form of stone lithography, showcasing the delicate images of landscapes, everyday objects and portraits by eight Finnish lithographers, highlighting a fine aesthetic sensibility. The lithographs are studies of quiet forms and colors of powerful aura. The exhibit was made possible by the Embassy of Finland.

It is the last show for 2012 at the Tall Galleries which hosted a series of landmark exhibitions that began in the first quarter: “Recurating the Met Museum Collection (1948-2011),” “Three Hundred Years of Philippine Maps (1598-1898)” and “Claudio Bravo: Sojourn in Manila.”

“Enduring Commitment (New Acquisitions of the BSP 2009-2011)” is at the Galeriya Bangko Sentral, following the successful exhibition on Russian and Philippine pre-modern religious art, “Ikon: Iconography.” Enduring Commitment is a fine assembly of meticulously selected artworks by Filipino artists that were recently acquired by the governing monetary institution of the Philippines from 2009 up to 2011. It features an intriguing mix of voices from junior artists as well as the established ones. Some of the highlights of the exhibition are new works by National Artists Arturo Luz and Ben Cabrera as well as period pieces by the late National Artist Jerry Elizalde Navarro. It also features the winners and selected finalists of the 2010 BSP Tanaw Art Competition, which is on its second run this year.
