Nemo Aguila at The Pocket Universe Gallery
MANILA, Philippines - Nemo Aguila takes viewers into a world of distorted fantasies, a visual barrage of color and strong expression, yet still within the realm of the comforting and familiar in “Out of Order,” which opens on Dec. 19 at The Pocket Universe Gallery, second floor, SaGuijo Café & Bar, 7612 Guijo St., San Antonio Village, Makati City. The show runs until Jan. 12, 2013.
Presented by The Pocket Universe Art Collection, in collaboration with The Crucible Gallery, “Out of Order” is an exploration into mental disorders.
Aguila’s art narrates the random daily experiences, and people’s experiences in a whimsical way. The mix of soft gore, weirdness, darkness, distorted and twisted positioning of subjects, in his distinct style, is the showcase of his vision of diversity in the common. He plays with the Filipino or Pinoy disposition, in the inclusion of icons, products, expressions, words, sayings and humor in his art. Aguila is strongly influenced by pop culture, the surreal, the hum in the streets, and sometimes “the joy of the delusional.”
