Classical cello master class with Iñaki Etxepare at Instituto Cervantes

MANILA, Philippines - Renowned Spanish cellist Iñaki Etxepare, who has been at the forefront of the European classical scene for the past few years with his groundbreaking work and unmistakable sound, will conduct a free master class for young cellists on today, 10 a.m. at Instituto Cervantes de Manila.

The session is free to the public and observers are welcome. For further information and registration, call 5261482.

On Dec. 14, 8 p.m., music lovers can enjoy an evening of classical music as Etxepare shares the charm and timeless quality of the cello with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Theater.

One of the best-known classical cellist players in Spain, Etxepare received his first violoncello lesson with Jacques Doué in Baiona, France where he obtained the Medaille D’Or and the Prix d´Honneur. He later on broadened his studies in Paris and Barcelona with X.Gagnepain, P. Müller, L. Claret, and M. Tortelier. 

Acclaimed by critics and public alike, this Irun-born Spaniard has participated in the Summer Academies of Flaine and Les Arcs, in the French Alps, where he learned from the French professors Roland Pidoux, Cristophe Henkel and the Brazilian Pedro Alcántara, who oriented him in the study of the “Alexander Technique.”

Presented by the Spanish Embassy in the Philippines and Instituto Cervantes for the 30th season of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, this one-night only musical performance will showcase the Spanish cellist as he share the stage with the most important orchestra of the country under the direction of Maestro Herminigildo Ranera.

The Iñaki Etxepare event is organized by the Spanish Embassy in the Philippines, Instituto Cervantes de Manila, Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and the CCP.
