‘The Life and Art of Lee Aguinaldo’ wins book award

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo Art Gallery’s The Life and Art of Lee Aguinaldo, co-published by Vibal Foundation, was awarded the Alfonso T. Ongpin Best Book on Art at the 31st National Book Awards.

“This book is an exultant homage to a lesser-known but decidedly important figure in modern (and even postmodern) Philippine artscape: Lee Aguinaldo, half-Russian and born an American citizen, a self-taught artist (autodidact), a first-generation Filipino abstractionist,” the citation for the award stated.

Authored by Ma. Victoria Herrera, Clarissa Chikiamco, Cid Reyes, Rod Paras-Perez, and with artwork photos by Cocoy Sarmenta, the book was published alongside the exhibition of the Ateneo Art Gallery titled “Lee Aguinaldo : In Retrospect.”
