Repertory Philippines announces its 2013 season

MANILA, Philippines - In celebration of the 46th year of Repertory Philippines, the year 2013 marks the 76th theater season with an exciting lineup of shows that will surely be one of the best theater treats anyone will experience.

Since 1967 to 2012, Repertory Philippines has produced well-known shows as Les Miserables, A Chorus Line, Carousel, West Side Story, Man of La Mancha, Fiddler On The Roof, My Fair Lady, Sound of Music, Evita, Woman in Black, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Equus, Private Lives, Amadeus, Man of La Mancha, Jekyll and Hyde and more than 300 other plays. The works of Shakespeare are also a regular part of Repertory Philippines’ program. Some productions include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Merchant of Venice, Much Ado About Nothing, and Romeo and Juliet. For young audiences, the very popular Rep Children’s Theater has produced musicals such as Pinocchio, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin (Jr.), Jack and the Beanstalk, Seussical and The Wizard Of Oz.

Boeing Boeing by Marc Camoletti — translated by Beverley Cross and Francis Evans — is a classic ’60s sex comedy hit of errors that won the 2008 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play. Bernard, a playboy juggles three fiancées, all flight attendants, with careful planning and the reluctant assistance of his housekeeper. But weather delays and the invention of a faster Boeing jet send his elaborate love life into chaos. It stars Michael de Mesa (a Repertory debut) and Michael Williams, and directed by Miguel Faustmann. The play opens on Jan. 25, 2013.

No Way to Treat a Lady — book, music and lyrics by Douglas J. Cohen based on the novel by William Goldman — is a devilish blend of humor, romance, and murder in a theatrically charged musical comedy thriller based on a bestselling novel and renowned movie. With a Fred Ebb Award for Musical Theatre Songwriting, a Richard Rodgers grant, and a nomination for Best Revival by the New York Outer Critics Circle. It stars Michael Williams and Carla Guevara-Laforteza, and directed by Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo. The play opens on March 1.

From a hallmark cult movie to a comedy smash hit on Broadway and the West End, The Graduate — adapted for the stage by Terry Johnson based on the novel by Charles Webb and the screenplay by Calder Willingham and Buck Henry —tells the story of an innocent and directionless college graduate who is seduced by an older woman while he falls in love with her daughter. It stars Cherie Gil, Reb Atadero and Cara Barredo, and directed by Jaime del Mundo. The play opens on April 5.

Directed by Joy Virata, Alice in Wonderland — book by Jim Eiler, music by Jim Eiler and Jeanne Bargy, lyrics by Jim Eiler, adaptation by Jim Eiler and adapted from the book by Lewis Carroll — tells Alice’s incredible journey into a world unlike her own where she meets the most surprising set of wild characters. The play opens on Aug. 17.

As a big Broadway musical, The Producers — book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan, music and lyrics by Mel Brooks — once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. This classic cult comedy broke all records and won a record 12 Tony Awards including Best Musical. The play, directed by Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo and Jaime del Mundo, opens on Nov. 15.
