Filfest presents ‘Rock Symphonies’
MANILA, Philippines - Filfest Cultural Foundation, Insular with BMW and San Miguel Corporation present “Rock Symphonies” featuring violinist Joseph Brian Cimafranca and the Manila Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Prof. Arturo Molina on Nov. 17, Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Insular Life Auditorium in Filinvest, Alabang. Classical masterworks by Saint-Saens, Brahms, Vivaldi and De Beriot will be heard side by side crossover renditions popularized by violinist David Garret such as He’s Pirate, Michael Jackson Medley, and Mission Impossible.
Hailing from Toledo City, Cebu, Brian is one of the new rising virtuoso violinists in the country. He started violin lessons with Jeffrey Solares under scholarship from the Cebu Youth Symphony Orchestra Development Program since 1997. He graduated with a bachelor of music degree at the St. Scholastica’s College under Prof. Arturo Molina. He has been a consistent prizewinner at the solo violin category of the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA). He has also performed as a soloist and orchestra player in Taiwan, Sydney and Thailand. He has participated in the Southeast Asian Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble (SAYOWE) from 2005 to 2008 and was appointed concertmaster of this orchestra. He also represented the Philippines in the Asian Youth Orchestra in 2010, touring Hongkong, China, Japan, Taiwan and Korea. He was featured in a solo recital at Paco Park Presents and is an active chamber musician, playing the first violin as a member of the Quartetto Espressivo, the first prize winning ensemble in the NAMCYA 2005 Chamber Music Competitions.
At present, he teaches violin at the St. Scholastica’s College School of Music and is a first violinist of the Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO). As a soloist, he performs the violin concertos of Mozart, Tschaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Vieuxtemps. Barber, Wieniawski and Sibelius.
