Daniel dela Cruz at Pinto Art Museum

-

MANILA, Philippines - Daniel dela Cruz mounts “Doorway to Decision,” which opens on May 20 at Pinto Art Museum.

From his early beginnings, holding most of his exhibits at the Ayala Museum ArtistSpace displaying his one-of-a-kind metal sculptures since 2007, Daniel has now progressed to a new direction in his work. This latest exhibit will be done in both indoor and outdoor venues of the Pinto Art Museum grounds and his works have found new freedom and size given the ample space provided. Dela Cruz feels honored that neurologist and art patron Dr. Joven Cuanang — “one of the most respected art collectors” and gallery owners in the country — invited him to exhibit at Pinto, which literally (and serendipitously) means “door.”

Each work is a deft blend of different metals: brass, copper, lead, iron, bronze — even nickel — which he bends, molds and carves by hand to create fluid and graceful oeuvres d’art.

The exhibit “Doorway to Decision” was inspired by a poem of Robson Grant, “Door to Decision.” Dela Cruz explains that we are defined by the doors we choose and how we go through them, as we take a step into the unknown to discover new beginnings.

He concludes, “To truly live life is to face the Doorway to Decision, and to step in.”

The show is on view until June 17.

Pinto Art Museum is at 1 Sierra Madre, Grand Heights, in the 400-year-old hilltop city of Antipolo. A venue for modern and contemporary art exhibitions, the museum has presented several major art events and shows, some of which were international in scope and significance.
