Olivia d'Aboville's 'Coral Garden' in Singapore

-

MANILA, Philippines - Olivia d’Aboville — whose textile jewelry, sculptures, lighting design and installation art have been exhibited in museums, galleries, hotels and festivals in France, Hong Kong, Manila and the United States — mounted an installation titled “Coral Garden” on view at the Marina Bay waterfront as part of “i-Light Marina Bay 2012.”

“Coral Garden” raises awareness about efforts to reform damaged reefs. It is an installation of coral-like sculptures made of re-used cocktail stirrers, which promote the beauty and importance of coral in the functioning of natural ecosystems. The cocktail stirrers are a symbol of consumerist society, which is indicted as an element polluting our seas.

The “Coral Garden” art installation was commissioned by the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore for “i-Light Marina Bay 2012,” Asia’s first and only sustainable light art festival.
