Creating magic with art and technology
MANILA, Philippines - Realizing the importance and contribution of technology to art, seven international artists representing various art genres have gathered together in the historical walled fortress of Intramuros to create, interact, and inspire with the mission to reinvigorate life back into the city by spearheading a new era of culture through art and technology.
The seven art mavens called TBC (To Be Continued) Manila showcased artworks ranging from iconographic motion videos, to experimental photographs, to “found art” installations and 3D projections in this one-of-a-kind contemporary art exhibit, a first in Manila. Staged at the often-quiet and secluded courtyard of Plaza San Luis in Intramuros, the whimsical art exhibit was a perfect marriage of history, culture, modern idealism, and urban facets.
To further highlight and showcase the new media exhibit, TBC in partnership with PLDT, the country’s largest telecommunications company, unveiled their newest technological wonder, the PLDT Telpad, the world’s first tablet landline offering unlimited local calls, unlimited internet and even offers exclusive PLDT apps and content. Several units of the new and improved Android-powered device were strategically stationed all around the exhibit, allowing guests and art enthusiasts to view information and profiles of each artist, see their other artworks, blog, share, and even live tweet and blog their experiences either in Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr in this creatively-unique art exhibition.
The septet of artists include TBC Manila’s founding father Anton Lopez, whose works include video and audio installations inspired by his trips around the world; Julia Chang, a Rema Hornn Mann Foundation Art Grant nominee; Cody Hudson, known for his deconstructed sculptures and multi-dimensional graphics; Young Kim, the artist behind the 20-year art series called “Suitman” in over 100 cities worldwide; Vogue and Elle magazines photographer Dan Pak; poster master Chris Rubino, whose works are featured in the permanent collection of the Zurich Museum of Design; and Jon Santos, a multi-media artist whose inspiration is taken from his many cultural travels around the world.
“We hope to transform the historic site of Intramuros into an open art gallery that will breathe life back into this pocket of Manila with the help of the latest technological wonders like PLDT’s Telpad bringing people and art into the next century,” said TBC’s Fil-Am curator Anton Lopez.
