Rizal exhibit in Madrid

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Directorate of Cultural and Scientific Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and the National Library of Spain present “Entre Espña y Filipinas: Jose Rizal, Escritor,” which is on view until Feb. 12 at the National Library building of Madrid.

The exhibit, which opened last Nov. 30, 2011, is part of the 150th anniversary of the National Hero.

The exhibit shows various personal items that inspired his works. Featured are two original letters addressed Ferdinand Blumentritt and his family (written between 1886 and 1887), lent by the National Library of the Philippines, which have never been shown before out of the Philippines; two epaulettes worn by General Emilio Aguinaldo provided by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines and an edition of La Solidaridad of May 15, 1989 which includes Rizal’s article “La verdad para todos” provided by the historian and expert on the figure of Rizal, Dr. Ambeth R. Ocampo.

The loan was made possible through the collaboration of the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines.
