Instituto Cervantes screens a documentary on bullfighting

-

MANILA, Philippines - Instituto Cervantes de Manila and the Mexican Embassy in the Philippines will present Maletilla, a documentary on the world of bullfighting, on Oct. 26, at 7 p.m.

Directed by Filipino-Mexican filmmaker Victoria Clay-Mendoza, who will introduce the documentary and discuss it with the public after the screening, this one-hour documentary follows her attempt to understand her father’s passion for and devotion to the art of bullfighting. In the process, she meets up with several young Spaniards who were pursuing the same dream her father had and there she captures the emotions of these individuals who keep alive an all but lost tradition — a dangerous ballet of savage beauty.

The documentary was produced in 2003 and screened in the I Film Festival in Morelia, Mexico and in the III Film Festival in Seville, Spain.

Maletilla is organized by Instituto Cervantes de Manila in collaboration with the Mexican Embassy, the Spanish Embassy in the Philippines, and Spanish Agency International Cooperation for Development (AECID).

Admission to the screening is free on a first-come-first-served basis. For information, call 526-1482 or visit http://manila.cervantes.es Instituto Cervantes de Manila is at 855 T.M. Kalaw St., Ermita, Manila.
