Museo Walo mounts ‘Art for a Cause’ at Insular Life

MANILA, Philippines - Museo Walo, in partnership with the Sweethearts of Christ Foundation Inc. (SoC), will hold “Art for a Cause,” which opens on June 25 at the Insular Life Bldg., Filinvest Corporate City, Muntinlupa.

Featured artists are Alvaro Jimenez, Frank Cana, Francis Nacion, Jun Alfon, Rene Filipinia, Roel Obemio, and Teody Racuya.

Proceeds from the sale of the paintings will benefit the SoC’s ongoing feeding and scholarship programs for the marginalized sectors of society.

Jun Reyes at The Crucible

Jun Cruz Reyes reminisces his childhoold in his hometown Hagunoy in “Ang Huling Dalagang Bukid at ang Autobiography na Mali,” which opens tomorrow at The Crucible, fourth floor, SM Megamall A, Mandaluyong City.

A highlight of the event is the launch of Reyes’ book by the same title published by Anvil Publishing.

‘Mga Kasintahan ni Rizal’ at Galeria de las Islas

“Inches Triumph” by Jayson Cortez

In celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal, Galeria de las Islas presents “Mga Kasintahan ni Rizal,” which is on view until June 30 at Silahis Center, 744 Gen. Luna St., Intramuros, Manila.

The show features paintings and sculptures by National Artist Napoleon Abueva, Roberto Lavides, and Antonio Doctor Garcia, and other artists as well as brass busts of Rizal, Mabini, and Bonifacio by Gil Sermeno.

‘Jose Rizal Figuras’ at SM Art Center

6 O’Clock Habit Group members Aleah Angeles, Chester Calayag, Jayson Cortez, Anton Mallari, Edwin Martinez, Jessie Mondares, Joel Quiñones, Kim Jerome Santiago, Bryan Teves, and Cyril Tuyao; Black Jack Group’s Peter Alcazar, Jay Bermudez, Rey Bollozos, Reynard Borillo, Ronson Culibrina, Aubrey Fajardo, Isadore Lerio, Gualberto Licong Jr., John Marin, Gino Nagret, Rommel Sampana, Jukus Sepada, Jay Torres, Papi Umali, and Rodney Yap; Jong Tangiday, Froilan Calayag, Joey Cobcobo, Joel Mendez, Papajack, Steve de Leon, and Ronald Ventura muse upon the life story of Rizal in “Jose Rizal Figuras,” which runs until June 14 at SM Art Center, fourth floor, SM Megamall A, Mandaluyong City.

Toots Magsino at ArtistSpace, Ayala Museum

Toots Magsino shares her struggles with bipolar disorder in “Between Episodes,” which opens on June 15 at ArtistSpace, second floor, Glass Lane, Ayala Museum, Makati City. The show runs until June 28.

Magsino created the works in between two major bipolar episodes.

“Though I suffer from the condition, it does not define me,” Magsino says. “I owe a great deal of my sanity and survival to art.”

An autobiographical talk will be held on June 18, 3:30 p.m. also at ArtistSpace.
