Olivia d'Aboville auctions work for a cause at Mandarin

MANILA, Philippines – Filipina-French artist Olivia d’Aboville collaborates with Mandarin Oriental, Manila for the hotel’s French Evenings that celebrate visual arts, music and cuisine. In conjunction with the hotel performance of visiting French chanteuse Mouron on April 1 and 2, d’Aboville offers one of her signature works in a silent auction to support the concert’s goal to raise funds for the d’Aboville Foundation and Demo Farm Inc.’s reforestation and rural electrification project in Puerto Galera for the Iraya Mangyan community in Barangay Baclayan — the only area in the municipality without electricity.

To be auctioned is the Physophora sp., a piece made from monofilament fishing line, with the fluid-like movements of a tentacled specie of the deep, resembling the marine specie. The piece, comprising a four-cm body and 136 cm tentacles, comes with its own lighting and pedestal and will be on display for two days at the Clipper Lounge on the mezzanine of the hotel, to complement the Hymnes A L’amour (Songs of Love) concert of the French “Diva of Chansons.” Some of d’Aboville’s works, which were exhibited recently at the launch of Ayala Museum’s “New Frontiers” program, will also be displayed at The Tivoli during the dinner concert on April 2.
