British Council IELTS scholarship launched
MANILA, Philippines - The British Council announces the launch of its IELTS Scholarship for Filipino students planning to study at universities overseas. In line with its mission to promote the global sharing of knowledge and ideas, British Council will select seven post-graduates students from Philippines, each of whom will receive a scholarship of $3,500 towards the cost of tuition.
Eligible applicants will have an IELTS test score. IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the world’s leading English language test designed to evaluate ability to communicate in English for education, immigration and professional accreditation worldwide.
“IELTS is an international test that puts people first,” says Greg Selby (British Council IELTS manager-East Asia), “and I can’t think of a better way of underling this than helping more people realize their aspirations by giving them access to international educational networks and experience. Early this year, we have launched the scholarship in Vietnam, Korea and India with a total investment of around £60,000 (approximately $90,000). We are investing in order to benefit individuals and their societies: to help Filipino graduates achieve their personal goals, as well as to promote connections within the international higher education sector.”
Scholarship winners will begin a postgraduate program at any overseas university which uses IELTS as part of its admission requirements in order to measure of English language proficiency. Because IELTS is accepted at over 6,000 institutions in 125 countries worldwide, university choice is wide. In the US alone, over 2500 institutions and programs accept IELTS. Along with the rise in the number of US institutions accepting IELTS, the number of IELTS test takers globally increased to over 1.4 million in 2009.
A complete application must be received by British Council office in Pasig City by March 31, 2011. Detailed information regarding British Council IELTS Scholarship, including application materials, is available at www.britishcouncil.org.ph.
