Classical guitarist Miguel Trápaga at Instituto Cervantes

MANILA, Philippines - Instituto Cervantes de Manila presents a guitar recital featuring Spanish guitarist Miguel Trápaga on Nov. 19, 7 p.m., at Instituto Cervantes’ Salon de Actos.

The prestigious guitarist from Cantabria, Spain will feature the finest works in the Spanish repertoire through a selection of compositions by guitarists such as Fernando Sor, Dionisio Aguado and Francisco Tárrega.

Trápaga will also be conducting a classical guitar workshop for advanced students on Nov. 17 and 18 at Instituto Cervantes.

One of the best-known classical guitar players in Spain, Trápaga studied at the Ataúlfo Argenta Conservatory in Santander and at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música in Madrid. He took lessons from Spanish guitar masters José Luis Rodrigo, David Russell, Gerardo Arriaga, among others.

Acclaimed by critics and public alike, Trápaga has been awarded scholarships from the Fundación Marcelino Botín in Santander, Juventudes Musicales in Madrid and the Fundación La Caiza de Barcelona. He has also competed and won prizes in different festivals in Madrid, Ohio and Canada, among others.

Trápaga currently teaches at the Real Consevatorio Superior de Música in Madrid. He has made recordings for the Spanish National Radio and the BBC and has given recitals in concert halls and theatres worldwide. He also has performed with the Moscow String Quartet, the mezzosoprano Lola Casariego, and as a soloist with the Seville Symphony Orchestra, Madrid Symphony Orchestra and the Ukranian National Orchestra.

On Nov. 19, Spanish masterpieces will be brought to life through Trápaga’s passionate performances and his guitar and technique will take audience to the sound that is truly evocative of Spain. 

Miguel Trápaga: recital de guitarra is organized by Instituto Cervantes de Manila in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in the Philippines, Spanish Agency International Cooperation for Development (AECID), the Ministry of Culture of Spain, and the New World Hotel.
