Brief history of Mexico's vibrant culture at Instituto Cervantes
MANILA, Philippines - Instituto Cervantes de Manila, in cooperation with the Mexican Embassy in the Philippines, presents a lecture by Spanish professor Juan Antonio Pascual Gay on Mexico’s rich history and cultural tradition tomorrow, 7 p.m., at Instituto Cervantes’ Salon de Actos.
Titled “La cultura en Mexico (1821-1910),” this lecture in Spanish offers an intellectual and cultural map of the relevant facts and ideas of the century that witnessed the birth of a nation on par with a culture that gives meaning to the term “national.”
In his talk, Dr. Pascual will highlight key moments and movements across the scope of the Mexican history from 1821 to 1910 like the colonial era leading up to Mexico’s independence in 1821 as well as the Mexican Revolution of 1910.
This event also seeks to provide a foundation for a deeper understanding and wider appreciation for the vast richness that is Mexico, past and present.
Dr. Pascual is a research professor at the Colegio de San Luis Potosi in Mexico. He finished his doctorate in Hispanic Studies from the Autonomous University of Barcelona with a thesis on twentieth century Mexican literature.
“La cultura en Mexico (1821-1910)” is organized by Instituto Cervantes de Manila in collaboration with the Mexican and Spanish Embassies in the Philippines, and Spanish Agency International Cooperation for Development (AECID).
