Noni Buencamino stars with Dawn in 'A Little Night Music'

-

MANILA, Philippines - Noni Buencamino will be taking to the stage once again, playing opposite multi-award winning film and television actress Dawn Zulueta in Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music.

Inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s film, Smiles of a Summer Night, A Little Night Music is considered one of Stephen Sondheim’s most accomplished works and is probably best known for the song, Send In The Clowns.

It opened on Broadway in 1973 and it went on to win that year’s Tony Award for Best Musical. It is now enjoying a very successful Broadway revival that opened with Catherine Zeta Jones (and won her the Tony for Best Actress) and now continues to play to sell-out crowds with Bernadette Peters as Desiree.

Noni plays Frederick and of this says, “I am looking forward to performing live again, where audience reactions are immediate. Playing Frederick is very interesting. The music haunts me. There is much work to be done, especially since I haven’t done Broadway and a Sondheim at that, in so long. It’s always scary and exciting.”

Director Bobby Garcia says, “I have always wanted to work with Noni Buencamino. He is one of the finest leading men in Philippine Theater. I am thrilled that he has joined us for A Little Night Music. He has created a tender and playful Fredrik Egerman, unlike any I have seen in the past.”

Joining Dawn and Noni in the stellar cast are Felix Rivera, Cris Villonco, Jake Macapagal, Jenny Jamora, Alys Serdenia and Jay Glorioso. Also featured in the ensemble are Raul Montesa, Teenee Chan, Agnes Barredo, Jenny Nuyda, Glen Llanes, Crystal Paras, Bea Garcia and Anthony Tarrosa Ong.

Atlantis Productions’ A Little Night Music celebrates Sondheim’s 80th year. It will also open in Singapore at the Esplanade Theater after its Manila run.

A Little Night Music runs from Oct. 15 to 31 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza. For tickets, call Atlantis Productions at 892-7078 or 840-1187.
