4th International Silent Film Festival at The Shang

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Goethe-Institut Philippine, the Embassy of Italy, the Japan Foundation and Instituto Cervantes are proud to present the only annual silent film festival in Southeast Asia, “The International Silent Film Festival Manila.”

For the fourth year running, the festival offers audiences in the Philippines the opportunity to watch international silent films the way they are supposed to be seen: on a large cinema screen and scored live.

Featuring Filipino artist like Caliph8, Radioactive Sago Project, Tanglaw and Out of Body Special the festival’s four movie-concerts offer the unique possibility to experience an important chapter of film history. A history that is very much alive.

Our screenings bring together the old and the new, the foreign and the local — and in the process of confronting seeming opposites create unique pieces of performance art.

The 4th International Silent Film Festival Manila will be held on the weekend of August 28 and 29 at The Shang Cineplex Cinema 2, Shangri-La Plaza.

On Aug. 28, 4 p.m. there will be a live teaser performance in The Shang Atrium featuring Caliph8 (Italian Embassy), Tanglaw (Instituto Cervantes), Out of Body Special (Instituto Cervantes), and Radioactive Sago Project (Japan Foundation). The films to be screened are Asunta Spina (Italy, 62 minutes) at 6.30 p.m. and Kodakara Sodo (Japan, 34 min.) at 8.30 p.m.; and on Aug. 29, the films to be screened are La Bodega (Instituto Cervantes, 75 min.) at 3 p.m., and Berlin, die Sinfonie der Großstadt (Goethe Institut, 70 min.) at 5 p.m.
