Shell's National Search for best student-artists begins

-

MANILA, Philippines – The 2010 Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC) is now open and calling for submissions in Oil/Acrylic, Watercolor, Sculpture, Digital Fine Arts, and Calendar categories from currently enrolled regular college students. The NSAC is the Philippine’s longest-running student art contest at 43 years, and remains an eagerly awaited event by the national art community.

The competition is open-themed except in the Calendar category where entries must be executed in the medium of Digital Fine Arts. The Calendar theme is “143 Pilipinas” a play on the 43rd anniversary of the contest while encouraging a new breed of patriotism through art. Winning works that visually represent nationalistic pledges of hope, love, and peace will be featured in the 2011 corporate calendar of Pilipinas Shell.

Over P1M in cash prizes will be awarded to the winning student artists, plus medals and art supply items. Schools of first place winners will be awarded a special grant in support of the Faculty Development Program.

Every year, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation sets aside resources for the promotion of Philippine art among youths across the country. The annual advocacy undertaking is ushered in by the Shell Art Interaction Program where an established artist is flown to the provinces for a special dialogue with students, faculty, and local art groups. This year, multi-disciplinary artist Rosccapili holds sessions in Cebu, Davao, and The Podium in Mandaluyong City to inspire young talents to pursue art and invite them to join competitions. The Shell art season culminates with the awarding of winners in the National Students Art Competition, to be held later this year.

The 43rd Shell NSAC is also being supported by the following sponsors: Air21, SM Supermalls, Star Paper Corporation, Shell V-Power, Shellane, Shell Helix and National Book Store.

All provincial entries and Metro Manila Calendar entries must be submitted on Aug. 4, 5, and 6, 2010, while Metro Manila entries for Oil/Acrylic, Watercolor, Sculpture and Digital Fine Arts must be in by Aug. 26, 27, and 28, 2010.
