Classic and contemporary films at UPFI Film Center
MANILA, Philippines - The new UPFI Film Center ushers in the school year with an exciting slate of screenings and events.
For the 15th French Film Festival courtesy of the Embassy of France in the Philippines, a focus on Eric Rohmer serves as a fitting memorial to the French New Wave director who died early this year. A selection of his finest films, described mostly as explorations on the thorny questions of modern love often with hidden serious themes, runs from June 22 to June 24 with 5 and 7 p.m. screenings at the Cine Adarna (Main Cinema). Admission is free.
The critically acclaimed works of Taiwan’s master filmmaker Tsai Ming-Liang is scheduled for June 28 until July 2 at the Videotheque. The distinct hallmark of Tsai Ming- Liang films is presented by Manila Contemporary Gallery for UPFI Film Center’s Asian Visions continuing program.
From classic Rohmer works in Cine Adarna to the contemporary cinema of Tsai Ming-Liang at the Videotheque, Bernal Gallery then looks to the future by showcasing young talents in and out of UPFI — with an exhibition of nine recent UPFI students and graduates, as well as a magazine project by six graduates of the Alexis Tioseco internship program.
