Cecile Licad performs with Gerard Salonga and FILharmoniKA
MANILA, Philippines - World-renowned pianist Cecile Licad, who has been hailed as a “pianist’s pianist” by The New Yorker, is flying in to Manila for a concert with Gerard Salonga and FILharmoniKA.
The concert, titled “Cecile Licad with FILharmoniKA” and slated on July 2 and 3, 8 p.m. at the Philam Life Auditorium on UN Ave., Manila, will be the pianist’s debut performance with FILharmoniKa and Salonga.
FILharmoniKA, despite being a “young” orchestra (having been formed only in 2005), has already garnered rave reviews under the baton of its music director and chief conductor, Gerard Salonga, and is now considered as the most in-demand orchestra in the Philippines.
“Cecile Licad with FILharmoniKA” will feature two pieces by Spanish composer Manuel de Falla: El Sombrero de Tres Picos (The Three Cornered Hat) and Noches en los Jardines de España (Nights in the Gardens of Spain), followed by Jean Sibelius’ Finlandia and Charles-Camille Saint-Saens’ Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 22.
Licad’s latest performance abroad also featured de Falla’s Noches en Los Jardines de España, which she performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra last May. She will also be one of the attractions in the upcoming debut of Louis, a silent movie about the life of Louis Armstrong, where Licad will play live music together with jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and his ensemble.
“Cecile Licad with FILharmoniKA” will be held on July 2 and 3, 8 p.m. at the Philam Life Auditorium, UN Ave., Manila. For ticket inquiries please call Ticketworld at 891-9999 or PhilAmLife Corporate Affairs Office at 526-9250 or call Cecille Pascual at 807-4433, 0916-6454085.
