Instituto Cervantes brings back 'El Día E'

-

MANILA, Philippines - Instituto Cervantes de Manila is bringing back “El Día del Español (Day of the Spanish language)” on June 19.

Instituto Cervantes director José Rodríguez explains, “There are almost 2,000 Spanish words used in the Filipino language. Filipinos will be surprised to learn that they have adapted Spanish words and influences more than they think. So Spanish, in fact, that it has become too natural for anyone to notice at all.”

Along with the other 70 Instituto Cervantes centers in four continents worldwide, Instituto Cervantes in Manila celebrates El Día E with a special game where the grand prizewinner will receive an all-expense paid trip for an entire week to several cities in the Southern region of Andalucía, Spain, courtesy of Turismo de Andalucía. Called “Juego del Español,” the activity is a word game characterized by forming and combing of words across a board. The ability to combine words and a vast knowledge of one’s Spanish vocabulary will come into play. Winner or not, all participants who join will receive an El Día E T-shirt.

“Juego del Español” is open to the public with background of the Spanish language. To join this game, interested participants must register by calling 526-1482 or by going to Instituto Cervantes on June 19 before 9:30 a.m.

The Spanish cultural center in Manila will also be giving out free T-shirts and a 10 percent discount to those who will enroll during the day.

“El Día del Español” is organized by Instituto Cervantes de Manila in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in the Philippines, Spanish International Cooperation Agency for Development (AECID), Qatar Airways, Casino Español de Manila, Alba, Kusina Teatro, Barcelo Café, Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), and Fujifilm.
