Uto Ughi live at the CCP
MANILA, Philippines - Violinist Uto Ughi performs on June 2, 8 p.m., at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater), as part of Italy’s National Day celebration or Festa della Repubblica (Festival of the Republic), which marks the transition of the country from a monarchy to a republic.
The show is supported by Metrobank Card Corporation, Rustan Commercial Corporation, Italian Maritime Academy, Elburg, Crewtech, and Sofitel Philippine Plaza.
Ughi will be joined by celebrated pianist Alessandro Specchi as they take on a distinctive repertoire from the likes of Beethoven and Paganini in a show that is part of the program tour of Asia Maggio-Giugno 2010.
Considered one of the finest violinists in the world today, Ughi has also appeared alongside the most prestigious European and American orchestras including Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Boston Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic and the Washington Symphony under the direction of conductors such as Celebidache, Colin Davis, Haitink, Sinopoli, Sargent, Rozhdestvenskj, Leitner, Prêtre, and Rostropovich among others.
Alessandro Specchi also belongs to a roster of famed musicians having been acclaimed in his solo performances and collaborations with famous musicians and singers. He has been a piano teacher at the Cherubini Conservatory in Florence, Director at the Mascagni Conservatory in Leghorn and Artistic Director of the Tuscany’s Orchester. Specchi has recorded solo and chamber music works with Ricordi, R.C.A, Fonit Cetra, Fonè and is currently a piano teacher at the Florence Academy and at the International Academy in Portogruaro.
This upcoming gala concert is hosted by the newly appointed Ambassador of Italy to the Philippines, Luca Fornari with his wife Madame Silvana Novelli. Having been in diplomatic service since 1975, Ambassador Fornari was formally received last March by the Philippine Government as the new Ambassador-designate of the Italian Republic.
