Yatco and Tiu open PPO New Year concert
MANILA, Philippines - Conductor Oscar Yatco and pianist Albert Tiu open the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra’s (PPO) New Year presentation slated on Jan. 14, 2010, 8 p.m. at the Main Theater, Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Program includes Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 in C minor, op. 68; Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, op. 11; and Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber.
Yatco obtained his Teacher’s Diploma for Violin at the UP College of Music and continued his studies at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City and later at the Munich Music Academy in Germany. From 1980-1997, Yatco became the conductor and music director of the PPO. He is presently conductor laureate of the PPO.
A graduate of the Juilliard School, pianist Albert Tiu studied with Jerome Lowenthal, as well as with Michael Lewin, John Winther, Nita Quinto and Nelly Castro.
As vice president of the Singapore Music Teachers’ Association, he is actively involved in creating more awareness in music performance and teaching in Singapore by way of giving workshops and masterclasses.
