MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Flute Society and Banco De Oro will present Canada’s leading flutist Robert Aitken in a concert on Oct. 29, 8 p.m., at the Francisco Santiago Hall in Makati City.

Joining Aitken are pianist Cristine Coyiuto and her daughter, flutist Caitlin Alisa, together with flutists Enrique Barcelo, Francisco Candelaria, David Jerome Johnson, Antonio Maigue, Marie Poblete, Raymundo Sison and Santiago Yangco. Ringo Chan of the Hong Kong Flute Center will conduct the Philippine Flute Society Flute Orchestra, a 30-member flute orchestra. The program will include works by Aitken, J.S. Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Doppler, Hüe, Mozart and Prokofiev. This concert features the flute in solo, for flute and piano, two flutes and piano, as well as several large works arranged for the flute orchestra.

An internationally reputed champion for both classical and contemporary music, Robert Aitken has been described as “Canadian Musician Extraordinaire… one of Canada’s leading flutists, one with impeccable taste and extraordinary abilities to define and mold musical concepts.” At age 70, he is still actively teaching and performing globally, premiering and recording new and old works by noted composers such as John Cage, George Crumb, Elliot Carter and Henry Brant.

A flute workshop is slated on Oct. 27 at the Coyiuto House. Everyone interested in flute techniques, warmup exercises and all things pertaining to the flute is welcome. For tickets and inquiries, call Imelda at 813-1866 or SMS 0916-4412222.
