Instituto Cervantes stages classical Hispanic music concert
MANILA, Philippines - Instituto Cervantes de Manila presents “Duo Rivera,” a concert featuring sisters Raquel Rivera and María Luz Rivera on Oct. 27, 7:30 p.m., at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino. The concert is part of the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage.
Founded in 2000, Duo Rivera is a violin and piano duet composed of sisters Raquel and María Luz. Aimed to promote Spanish classical music, the sisters hold a special regard not only to contemporary music, but as well as to traditional classical repertoire. The duet has performed various pieces by Spanish composers in numerous concerts across Spain, Europe, the Americas and Asia.
Right now, the Rivera sisters are busy developing several musical projects, focused mainly on classical and contemporary Spanish music for piano and violin, and especially Galician production, in relation to European classical music.
This duet has also performed pieces by some of the less-known Spanish composers, recovering their work and promoting it worldwide. They are known for incorporating music with other arts, in honor of some key figures of the Spanish repertoire.
For their first international appearance here in the Philippines, the concert duet gives tribute to Isaac Albéniz on the centenary of his death. It offers an outlook of musical nationalism in Spain — representing several origins that lived on horseback between the XIX and XX centuries.
The concert is organized by Instituto Cervantes, in cooperation with the National Historical Institute, Spanish Embassy in the Philippines, AECID, Spanish Program for Cultural Cooperation, Ministerio de Cultura of Spain, Filmoteca del Ministerio de AA.EE. de España, Cine en Construccion, Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day, LRT, MRT, Cultural Center of the Philippines, College of St.Benilde, Greenbelt and Ayala Malls Cinemas.
