Dr. Peter Zimmermann in 'The Fall of the Wall' seminar

MANILA, Philippines - Goethe-Institut Manila and the German Embassy together with Instituto Cervantes are presenting a seminar, as a side program to Cine Europa, featuring Dr. Peter Zimmermann on Sept. 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sept. 11, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Instituto Cervantes Cinema Hall.

The seminar will be about “The Fall of the Wall in the Documentary Films of East and West.” This is also in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Dr.Peter Zimmermann is a film scholar, author and lecturer at the University of Wuppertal (FB A) in Germany. His recent publications are - Dokumentarfilm im Umbruch (New Tendencies of the Documentary Film). Konstanz 2006, and Geschichte des dokumentarischen Films in Deutschland (History of the Documentary Film in Germany) Stuttgart 2005.

Day One presents an introduction into the history of the division of Germany after World War II, as well as screenings of excerpts of several documentary films by Wolfgang Staudte, Kurt Maetzig, Stuart Schulenberg, and Jürgen Böttcher. Day Two presents an introduction to the building of the Berlin Wall and the confrontation of East and West Germany, as well as screenings of excerpts of several documentary films by Karl Gass and Walter Heinowsky, among others.
