New PETA play relives the 2004 Quezon tragedy
MANILA, Philippines - PETA (Philippine Educational Theater Association) stages Noli at Fili Dekada 2000 (Dos Mil), which urns until Aug. 9, every Friday, Saturday and Sundat at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The play opens with a scene that restages the Quezon landslide: real water pours from the set, recreating the sporadic rain and low clouds that turned into a powerful typhoon — damaging crops, destroying hundreds of houses, washing roads, bridges and even people, some already buried under mudslides. The play continues with a series of action-packed scenes as the idealistic but naive Ibarra Marasigan (essayed by Lex Marcos), newly elected Mayor, decides to put a final stop to the deforestation of the Sierra Madre. He carries out his mission and comes face-to-face with the culprits of the logging operations.
Noli at Fili Dekada 2000 (Dos Mil) is directed by movie and theater stalwart Soxie Topacio and written by Nicanor Tiongson.
The cast includes Lex Marcos, Robert Seña, Bembol Roco, Bodjie Pascua, Jack Yabut, Paolo Rodriguez, Julia Enriquez, Jojo Atienza, Buddy Caramat, Joshua Deocareza, Joel Molina, Joel Saracho, Marichu Belarmino, Upeng Galang-Fernandez, Shé Maala, Neomi Tabanao-Gonzales, George de Jesus III, Raffy Tejada, Jeff Hernandez, Jess Evardone and Ron Alfonso.
