DLSU's Harlequin presents 'Rizal is My President'
MANILA, Philippines - Using a satirical play to educate the youth about responsible voting, De La Salle University’s resident theater organization the Harlequin Theatre Guild presented Rizal is My President at DLSU Yuchengco Auditorium, Taft Ave., Manila.
Based on the book Rizal is My President: 40 Leadership Tips from Jose Rizal written by Napoleon Almonte, the satirical play posed a hypothetical situation wherein our national heroes are turning in their graves due to the approaching election. They have had enough of the current Philippine situation; so they plan to send Jose Rizal himself back to run as the next Philippine president.
The problem is they have not told Rizal about the campaign. When they do reveal the plans to Rizal, he is cynical. Tension rises when the heroes disagree with each other. Rizal, on the other hand, is troubled with what he witnesses in the country, and second-guesses whether he should return to the Philippines or not.
Rizal, together with the rest of the Filipinos, is then faced with the inevitable question: In whose hands does the fate of the country lie?
Directed by PETA’s Romualdo Tejada, the play was written by Palanca award-winner Joshua So, a DLSU alumnus, with original songs by Noel Cabangon.
Rizal is My President is made possible with the cooperation of the Organizational Change Consultant Inc., a leading change consultancy specializing in paradigm shift interventions.
