Collage paintings and photograms featured at Silverlens

-

MANILA, Philippines – Silverlens Gallery presents “When or When” and “Sundance,” a collection of collage paintings by Marc Gaba and photograms by Kawayan de Guia, Neal Oshima, Allan Razo and Julius Clar.

Marc Gaba’s “When or When” features the artist’s continual exploration of the relationship between virtual and actual can be configured and rendered. From there, Gaba cuts away planes of color and Rothko-like moments from Edward hopper’s paintings to draw the lines from which the images started, eliciting new shadows before putting together the collage of paintings. This according to Gaba mixes time and interface of the present and whatever there is to be nostalgic about happen in the same zone.

Meanwhile, a collection of photograms by Kawayan de Guia, Neal Oshima, Allan Razo and Julius Clar take a back-to-basics approach and utilize alternative photographic processes--Platinum Prints, Cyanotypes, Kallitypes (Vandyke Prints) and Gum Bichromate Prints--that antedate the first silver gelatin photographs by more than a century.

The retro step and organic photographic process using sun as the 'darkroom' is subject to uncontrollable variables that demand fastidious experimentation. Each uniquely imperfect print is a suggestive abstraction of its original subject, which contributes to its longevity nature.

“Where or When” is shown along with “Balanâ” by Charlie Co and “Sundance” by Kawayan de Guia, Neal Oshima, Allan Razo and Julius Clar in Silverlens Gallery and will run until July 11, 2009. While “Sundance” will be shown until July 25, 2009.
