Diosdado Lorenzo honored in 'Art Rebel to Legend' book

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine-Italian Association and the Tantoco-Rustia Foundation launched a comprehensive collection of the life and works of Diosdado Magno Lorenzo through a book titled Art Rebel to Legend at the National Museum.

Written by Alice Guillermo the book showcases over 200 of Lorenzo’s works. Art Rebel to Legend pays tribute to Maestro Lorenzo and his art pieces that started a whole new chapter in Filipino Art. The man expressed his unique genius through an entire range of artistic mediums: oils, pastels, tempera and watercolors portraying the varied Philippine landscape and its simple folk captured in their subtle yet shining moments. 

A replica of the book was unveiled on stage led by Maestro Lorenzo’s wife and prime inspiration Lina Paolini. She was joined former first lady and patron of the arts Imelda Marcos, Ambassador Bienvenido Tantoco Sr., and the artist’s son Dr. Emilio Lorenzo.

 Guests included the secretary general of the Philippine-Italian Association Lina Paolini-Lorenzo, Dr. Emilio Lorenzo, Enrico Lorenzo and daughters Mariella Villaraza and Dr. Erlinda Lorenzo. Joining them were the board of directors of the Philippine-Italian Association, Silvana Ancellotti-Diaz, Tillie Pelagallo, Conrado Calalang, Nelly Bengzon, Marilou Alejandro and president Nedy Tantoco, the writer of the book Alice Guillermo, copy editor Arnold Moss and the curator of the UP Vargas Museum Ma. Victoria “Boots” Herrera. Other guests in attendance included cultural attache of the Italian Embassy Emanuela Adesini, Department of Tourism U-Sec Eduardo Jarque, CCP president Nestor Jardin, Betsy Westendorp, Cid Reyes, Celino Santiago, Dr. Jaime Laya and Benito Legarda, Jr.

This event was made possible with the support of Malayan Insurance Company Inc., Tantoco-Rustia Foundation, Ralph’s Wines and Spirits, and Shopwise. Food was provided for by Sofitel Philippine Plaza hotel.
