Benedictine monks perform at San Beda

-

On the 82nd foundation anniversary of the San Beda College’s Abbey Church, the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat will sing traditional Gregorian chants to celebrate the annual feast of the Sto. Niño de Praga and as a tribute of Our Lady of Montserrat after whom the first abbey of the Benedictine order in the country is named.

Dubbed “Gaudete in Domino” (Rejoice in the Lord), this rare musical experience will be held on Jan. 30, 6 p.m., at San Beda College’s Abbey Church.

This sacred music concert will be led by Fr. Bernardo Perez as choirmaster. The UST Liturgikon Ensemble and the UST Brass Ensemble will render excerpts from Georg Freiderich Handel’s “Messiah” and compositions by Ludwig van Beethoven, Giovanni Gabrielli, Tomas Luis de Victoria, and other classic composers. Fr. Benildus Maramba will play the organ.

The show is produced by the San Beda College High School Class of 1959 (this year’s Golden Jubilarians), chaired by Paul A. Aquino. Proceeds from the concert will go to the Pamanang Bedista: The San Beda College Heritage Center. This newly established center houses the rich history and tradition of excellence of this more-than-a-century-old Benedictine educational institution.

Good-for-two patron tickets are priced at P1,000 each. For ticket reservation, call the San Beda College Alumni office at 735-59-95/73361-31, or SMS 0917-8072222.
